Agricultural production diversity and child nutrition in Ethiopia

چکیده
Abstract This study investigates how two aspects of agricultural production diversity – farm and composition relate to child height-for-age weight-for-height in Ethiopia. We use longitudinal data on anthropometric measurements, household from the Ethiopia Socioeconomic Survey for 2011, 2013, 2015 available through World Bank. Using fixed effects models, we show that an increase reduces risk chronic food insecurity (child height-for-age) but has no impact acute measures weight-for-height). Results also suggest that, a context poor rainfall, more can adversely height-for-age, although livestock sales might mitigate detrimental effect. These findings highlight importance considering relationship between farm-level nutrition climate change.

BACKGROUND The amount and distribution of rainfall and temperature influences household food availability, thus increasing the risk of child under nutrition. However, few studies examined the local spatial variability and the impact of temperature and rainfall on child under nutrition at a smaller scale (resolution). We conducted this study to evaluate the effect of weather variables on child u...

Poor infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices are major determinants of chronic malnutrition. The main objective of this study was to assess the impact of a nutrition education (NE) programme aimed at promoting improved IYCF behaviours in combination with an agriculture intervention on children's dietary diversity and nutritional status. From 2012 to 2014, a cluster randomised trial was ...
